seafood and Long’s Nasi Goreng @Long’s chinese restaurant ; Mii review

after some consideration and coincidence we picked fancy red sign of Long’s as dinner spot. This Long’s restaurant have some chain in Surabaya, i ever taste one on ngagel, and this time we tried Tunjungan chain. Located on the opposite of the famous TUnjugan Plaza, this place is pretty eye catching, but cramped parking lot. after parking on the other part of the road at circle K, we walk a bit (that moment reminds me of our backpacking time in bukit bintang), crossing the fast moving main road and finally arrived.

this Tunjungan chain, is specified for seafood, so in the first floor there lots of fish tank filled with many kind of fish. but since we planned for a simple meal, we picked fast food Nasi goreng (fried rice). i choose Nasi goreng Seafood and he picked Nasi goreng Long’s. It comes up with a drink of our choose, from tea, lemon tea, to water. Cost only around 13.000.

my choices comes out very delicious, full of flavor, and one thing that amazed me, there’s an octopus on it. a pretty rare seafood that almost never comes out on a simple meal like nasi goreng. since i love those tentacle from octopus, even they size is super mini, i looove them so much, it’s like finding a gem in the rice, haha.

while my mate’s choice comes out slightly spicy and sweet, but still not as tasteful as mine. well he pick that only because it comes up with a fried egg (he need protein, he said), but in the end he ate mine’s a lot because the spiciness of his own choices.

meany matey..look at him taking my food and still stop me from finishing…that’s too much carb he said.

in the end Long’s is definitely a best choice for hungry tummy that need a healthier food, well in other branches they got so many vegetable based menu, and absolutely affordable price. But they were packed most of the times, so you need to be patient on crampiness. but the service is pretty good, our orders comes out on an average speed.

i’d give Long’s my 3.5 stars out of 5

Pizza @ patisserie Francois, Grand City Mall Surabaya ; Mii review

pizza…pizza…pizza…a yayy!

Oh well, today is the first day of Ramadhan fasting, but here i am posting on a mouth watering food review…so be it, brace it tummy!

i got a buy one get one all kind of Pizza voucher at patisserie francois at Grand city mall from a bff, since the moment is right, last day of  not fasting day and she got finished her final test, so yesterday me and her meet for lunch at granci. and my mate jump in join us for a fancy lunch.

a stretched hot mozzarella..lingering

firstly we order pizza named fantastique pizza, a thin crust topped with black olives, green and red bell peppers, chicken, and onion, and i got tantalized by the olives, a rare topping that vanished from Pizza hut menu. to be honest it’s pretty bland, until my bff comment that she said i never thought that pizza would tasteless like this, later then she continued than since what she oftentimes ate are pizza hut which she called fake taste. i dont know whether it’s because this is originally comes without much tomato sauce or it’s original flavor is. but we got saved by the hot sauce and ketchup.

ps: Indonesia, especially Surabaya still hugely monopolized by Pizza Hut chain, there’s less affordable pizza that commonly consume by our people here, so somehow pizza hut is the only pizza we could reach.

for our second pizza my mate got the honor to choose, and he choose meat lover pizza, ahhh so common topping i said, but fine then we eat it too. this one comes pretty common with ground beef, olives, and so many cheese. the picture above is this pizza. i was more to the first pizza in the term of topping, but this one is more tasteful rather than fantastique. but overall the pizza is so so, if i dont have voucher in hand, this place is not my destination. for a plate of pizza that enough for 3 average mouth, cost 45.000 minimum. for beverage there’s no drink under 10.000 (small bottle of mineral water). enough said this is a fancy place, everything related with francois and it’s friends is indeed expensive.

she pick the drink, a mix between manggo juice and orange juice, with bubbles jelly, nata de coco and fresh strawberry, cost the same with a plate of pizza, cater 3 average mouth. nice and fresh, but the bubbles and stuff are hindering, hardly to pull out and less drenching the thirst. and their glass is also weird, the couldn’t stand still, how to say it, they got a lump under that make them swirling around like mad, and we oftenly asked each other, why do they pick this glass??only god knows.

dessert….a molten cake combi!

since she announced that she going to pay for us all, me and my mate hurray-ed and scream for another order..haha. and i choose this molten cake, since i’m very curious and i want to try to make some one day (and i def post it all over, lol). if u ask the price it somehow come up with the same price as pizza and drink, haha. it comes up with a combi with their own frozen yogurt and fruits topping. the molten cake is awesome, totally awesome, me likey, me likey so munch! haha. the lava that coming out from it is very nice, muddy, chocolaty, and not boring (sometimes i found chocolate is a boring flavor), and it comes out warm (i love warm cakes!). definitely om nom nom! i’m going to make soon!. the frozen yogurt is so so.

that’s it, patisserie francois dear, i gave you 2.3 stars outta 5

Happy Ramadan Fasting people!!

Gotri’s Nasi Bakar and Pancake : Mii review

that day lunch is determined to be projecting to this place named Gotri, located on Ngangel, Surabaya. i’ve been recommended to this place for so many times by my teen cousins. He fallin love with Gotri’s pancake that he sacrificed crossing town to get their pancakes, yes that far.

the menu

So here i am with a BFF looking for tummy filler that one hot day. i got fascinated by the simple yet full of menu menus.

if you have eagle eyes you can notice that there is so many variation on the menu, sssssooooo many that made you dizzy choosing. And once again i’ve been recommended to Nasi Bakar, i pick that for my meal and a safe choice milkshakes as my drink. The price is totally cheap, for air conditioned place, and metal and glass cutlery (i just found my self detesting plastic dinnerware in a restaurant). Price range is around 10.000-25.000 rupiah for food and 5000-10.000 for drink, cheap aight?!

veggie juice and nasi bakar pepes tongkol

those hideous green juice my bff pick isn’t as taste as hideous as it look, i just faound it taste sour and fresh with limited sweetness, perfect for model diet :P . She pick Nasi bakar peskol (pepes tongkol) for here meal.

close up of nasi bakar pepes tongkol

once again you a super eyes power to find where the tongkol (fish) standing, because they were more to dusted and finely scattered on the cured rice. they taste good, and full of flavour and a bit spicy, and the came piping hot on the banana leaf wrap.

my safe choice nasi bakar kari ayam and vanilla milkshake

close up look for my nasi bakar ayam kari with lemon grass and lime leaf inside of it

i was pretty amazed by the lemongrass and lime leaf inside of it, since it cheap i wouldn’t expect for the small detail there. but yet it hard to find chicken meat on the enormous succulent rice. But unfortunately my thought-it-safe choice seems to end up tasteless and tasteless, i fell like i’m eating a lump of (well, almost) plain rice, yes, those lemongrass and evertything couldn’t help muct for the taste. they just give kick on the aroma.

gotri’s choco banana pancakes

even though we were full like hell, i’m still and still curios on their best critic pancakes. so i pick this choco banana pancakes from their only two choices.

the fluffy pancakes

served with vanilla ice cream on top and lots of chocolate sauce, this yes-i-admit fluffy pancakes is delicious. even with a full tummy both of us still have mouth to stomach this dessert. the pancakes taste savory than sweet, contrasting with the sauce and ice cream, so it was nice and delectable.

while waiting for my girl to pay for our lunch ( :P ), i look around and took some pictures. this place is packed during our visit, some customer event return home because it’s fullness. and the most of the visitor are indeed youngster, couples, but some others i saw are  old couples, family and workers.

the inside look

overall review for this place is NICE! i’d love to come back to try other menu, since they came in enormous variation, yet the service is good and fast. make sure you ask them for extra sambal and pickles, the’ll give you free!

i’d love to give 3.7 stars out of 5

gelato crepes and chicken pizza by Cafe Pisa : Mii Review

my so-called b’day meal

I was craving for a couture cake for decades, and since that day is my Birthday, i feel for a treat. After such an inspiring moments at Ciputra University (i’ll talk bout it later on other post), we drive in cafe Pisa. I’ve been loving this gelato for a while, since we brought my late Grandma there for a family dinner, and she loves ice cream (T_T miss u granny!).

After a long thinking (bout the price) my mind set to the crepes. said served with 3 scoop gelato and a layer of crepes, pretty much expensive for a 23.000 (or sumthing, i always failed to remember price, awesome!). And my always-hungry-and-hurry mate order a pizza in a flash.

gelato flavour that i picked are praline, black forest and tiramisu

and i fallin love with the praline gelato, it comes with a hazelnutty flavour and some candied fine hazelnut. it was so crunchy and creamy at the same time, totally love it. the other flavour was so-so, so i’m not gonna waste time review it. and i was able to taste some other flavour from the scooping counter, the rum raisins is bitter, too sharp for my taste buds.

the crepes is dry and thick, totally awful.

since i ever taste another crepes with an couture price on exactly next door to this cafe pisa (but now they changed into something else i don’t understand about) and it was blissful, so i can compare well, or maybe even an average reasonable person could just spit it right away without chew it. It sounds rude, but you got a fancy birthday girl here to impress, so could you please at least make a little effort here chef?!. okay i’m a bit emotional here, to give you my dear reader a real easy analogy is wonton skin dried in sun for 5 hour min. Or just simply a kulit pangsit or maybe a tortilla, that’s depicting the thick and dryness of this crepes. enough said they’ve been saved by the praline gelato, and i feel ok paying for the bill later on.

thin crust, 4 layer of pineapples and onion, with chicken chunk on a tomato based sauce…i guess it named for Hawaiian chicken pizza..maybe :P

i’m a thin layer crust kinda girl, and this pizza suit me. it taste good and priced much (well pisa cafe isn’t your fast-call nor neighborhood pizzeria), but reminds me of my own handmade pizza, so somehow didn’t impress me much. But as i said before my mate was eating it like there’s no tomorrow  so i start to dig into it in rhyme.

the b’day girl in her bad-hijab-day…proudly ugly-enuffsaid-..

thanks to my mate i have a company to spend my bday in style. (he look like someone else in this picture…hoo)

overall review are; if you were looking for a nice gelato u can refer to this cafe pisa, but for other than ambiance you can count on other if you feel like saving your money from wasted.

i’d give 2.5 stars out of 5

Pujasera Pojok Tunjungan 24jam ; Mii Review

the inside look

where to go after a short visit or mini party? a 24hour shop exactly..since we’re no longer teenager that suit to free-to-sell-alcohol-to-teens circle K or any fancy place, we headed to a calmer and sophisticated place, a 24hour pujasera, or cafeteria :P.

A place that reckon as new open by my mate, located at siola jalan tunjungan, the famous landscape that nowadays being resurrected after a long hiatus. Exactly at the corner or the road, with a barn-like theme interior, the sell so many food and beverage, from lontong balap to roti bakar. The place was full when we arrived around 10.30 pm, packed with family and older member eating, talking, and some other was watching soccer from a projector.  Realizing that that day is still Thursday and it’s already almost full house, we reckon that the place is selling good. Whether is the place is packed or the  service is suck, i dunno, but to get a ronde and gado-gado is taking more than 30 minutes from the time we ordered.

and then came my order….Ronde…cost me Rp 12.000 and regret.

as you might saw that it looks like a colorful mothballs on the outside, the inside is as hideous as the looks, the supposed-to-be nuts and sugar filling is unrecognizable and the skin is not fully cooked, a reason to get nuts in the middle of the night.

but fortunately my mate’s order is nice, so nice that made him humming and chanting so many times without any complaints at all.

“na’ah….i’m on a diet” he said, and i ate half of the carbo he left :P

well indeed the gado-gade he got is nice, it just me who unlucky that night. they also provide wi fi here, so all you need is wisely choosing the menu.

this is pretty much a place to go when you looking for an all-nighters hang-out plus eating place. Since like what my mate said that this is the only place to play your ipad with a glass of  sugar free guava juice at 11pm, a better but not healthier option he said. Well, i agree, since i bet there is no other places sell a gado-gado, lontong balap, or even further semanggi in the middle of the night, at first i was suspicious with it, i mean there’ll be more wilted veggies rather than not on a veggies based menu sell in the night, but my suspicion was not proven, they served it as good as the morning seller. But one thing need to be careful during your visit to this place, the dark toilet, my mate found himself  chanting while doing his business in the dark.

i’d like to give 3.4 stars out of 5, yes i’d love to come again to try the other menu.

Ayam Lepaas : Mii review

Image

                                                         ayam Lepaas
